How do I use SeeShore?

  1. Open the app and point your camera across the water toward a distant shore.
  2. SeeShore will identify the land you're looking at and display an AR annotation.
  3. Press the AR annotation to show details about that place, including distance, bearing, and more information.
  4. Explore the 3D coastline view to better understand the geography.

Location Modes

Near Water Mode

When you're within range of a body of water (ocean, bay, lake), SeeShore works automatically. Just point your camera across the water to see AR annotations showing the places you're looking at.

Simulation Mode is also available when near water. Tap the Sim button to virtually transport yourself to another coastal location anywhere in the world. This lets you explore what you'd see from beaches in San Francisco, Sydney, Miami, and other locations without being there. Tap Sim Off to return to your actual location.

Away From Water Mode

If you're not near water, a “Too Far From Water” panel will appear. You can still use the app by selecting Try Another Location to simulate being at a coastal location. This is perfect for:

  • Exploring the app before your next beach trip
  • Checking out views from destinations you're planning to visit
  • Using the app from home or while traveling inland

Tip: After selecting a simulated location, tap the Map button to see a map view of where that location is. This helps you understand the geography and what places you're looking at across the water.

Adjusting Location Settings

In Settings > Location, you can adjust the “Max Distance from Water” setting:

  • 1-10 km: The app checks if you're within this distance of water
  • Off (0 km): Disables the location check entirely, allowing the app to work from anywhere
